Driving to Red River 

Red River is easy to get to from any of these cities:

Albuquerque      160 miles

Amarillo              285 miles

Dallas                  650 miles

Denver                260 miles

Lubbock              416 miles

Oklahoma City     520 miles

Driving from Albuquerque?  Take I-25 through Santa Fe towards Taos (if you're not planning on seeing Santa Fe you can take the Santa Fe Relief Route - NM 599). Take Hwy. 285/68 through Espanola and the canyon that runs along the Rio Grande into Taos.  Once you get through Taos, head north on NM 522 to Questa, then make a right on Highway 38 towards Red River.

Driving from Dallas? Starting from I-35E N, head north towards Denton. Take TX-183 W towards Irving/DFW, then merge on to TX-114 W towards Grapevine. In 39 miles merge onto US-287 N toward Bridegport/Decatur. Take US-287 N/I-40W through Wichita Falls to Amarillo. Go through Amarillo then exit Soncy Road/TX-335 Loop. From the loop take the Tascosa Road/ RM-1061, and stay on 1061 for 30 miles. Turn right on US-385, then merge on to US-87 towards Dalhart. You’ll cross into New Mexico and head towards Clayton. Turn left onto US-412/US-56/NM-402/MONROE ST towards Springer, then take I-25 N towards Raton for four miles. Take NM-58 W towards Cimarron, then left on US-64. Once you reach Eagle Nest, turn right on US-38 and head on in to Red River.

(Warning - this is the quickest route, but takes you through some really rural areas. To drive through more populated areas go from Amarillo to Dumas, then Hartley to Dalhart).

Air Transportation

Choose one of the many daily flights into the Albuquerque International Sunport, or try the new American Airlines service into Santa Fe (direct from DFW and LAX).  Rental cars are available at both airport locations.

 

ABQ to Red River (three hour drive): Exit the Sunport on to I-25N through Santa Fe towards Taos (if you're not planning on seeing Santa Fe you can take the Santa Fe Relief Route - NM 599). Take Hwy. 285/68 through Espanola and the canyon that runs along the Rio Grande into Taos. Once you get through Taos, head north on NM 522 to Questa, then make a right on Highway 38 towards Red River.

SAF to Red River (two hour drive): Exit to Santa Fe airport on to Airport Road. Make a left on NM 599 (Santa Fe Relief Route). Take Hwy. 285/68 through Espanola and the canyon that runs along the Rio Grande into Taos. Once you get through Taos, head north on NM 522 to Questa, then make a right on Highway 38 towards Red River.

Rail Transportation

Now you can take the New Mexico Rail Runner from the Albuquerque Sunport to the Santa Fe Depot, then hop on the Taos Express to head to the mountains.  Beginning soon a shuttle will also be available from Santa Fe or Taos directly in to Red River.

 

Heli Transportation

Helicopter flights are available into Red River from Albuquerque's Double Eagle II Airport from Enchantment Helicopters, (505) 831-HELI.
